Free Early Education (FEE): The following information details how your child can access their FEE hours at St. Mary’s Pre-School.
FEE and Additional Fees: All children become eligible for 15 hours per week of FEE from the beginning of the term after their 3rd birthday. We also offer the 30 hours Extended Entitlement to eligible parents to a maximum of 20 hours per week. Some 2 year olds may be eligible for Free For 2 (FF2) funding. Parents/carers should check on the Childcare Choices website (www.childcarechoices.gov.uk) to find out if their child qualifies.
A child becomes eligible for FEE at the start of the term after their third birthday in line with the following DfE information:
- A child born between 1st April and 31st August will be eligible for FEE from Start of term 1, in September, following their 3rd birthday.
- A child born between 1st September and 31st December will be eligible for FEE from Start of term 3, in January, following their 3rd birthday.
- A child born between 1st January and 31st March will be eligible for FEE from Start of term 5, in April, following their 3rd birthday.
FEE over 37 weeks: We are open for 37 weeks per year, meaning our available FEE hours are a maximum of 540 per year for Universal 15 hours, or 1,080 hours per year for Extended 30 hours. At St. Mary’s Pre-School, each child will be funded to a maximum of 15 hours per week at 2.5 hours per session over a maximum of 6 sessions or, for eligible children, 20 hours per week at 2.5 hours per session over a maximum of 8 sessions.
At St. Mary’s Pre-School the FEE hours (Universal and Extended) are offered in the following formats:

- Full Morning Session (9.00-11.45) – 2.5 hours free + a fee of £7.00 for the wrap-around care.
- Reduced Morning Session (9.00-11.30) – 2.5 hours free.
- Afternoon Session (12.30-3.00) – 2.5 hours free.
Parents may add a lunch session (11.45-12.30) to either a full Morning or Afternoon Session for a fee of £4.50 for 3 & 4 year olds or £4.85 for 2 year olds.
Subject to availability, we have a limited number of places for 2, 3 and 4 year old children accessing their FEE hours only. The following attendance is available: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 9.00 – 11.30 & 12.30 – 15.00, although we may be able to make alternative arrangements by agreement of the management team.
Children attending non-funded sessions in addition to their FEE will be charged at our current rates as shown above. You will be invoiced in the usual way showing how many free hours your child is receiving in that period and what the additional charges are.
Please note that the FEE can be split between 2 providers up to a maximum of 15 hours per week. Extended FEE can be split between a maximum of 2 sites per day up to a maximum of 30 hours per week.
Notice of Change: Changes in a child’s attendance should be discussed with the Supervisor as early as possible.
Notice of Cancellation of place: We require one term’s notice, in writing to the Supervisor. If notice is not given by the beginning of term, a fee equivalent to one term will be charged in lieu of notice. Holidays are not included in the notice period.
Illness/Absence: No refund will be given in the event of a child’s absence due to illness, holiday or any other reason.
Late Pick Up: Children must be collected promptly at the end of a session/day. Should a parent fail to collect their child within 15 minutes of the session/day end, without contacting the pre-school, a late collection fee of £15.00 will be charged, and a further £1.00 per every minute thereafter.
Late Payments: All invoices must be paid within 14 days of the date stated at the top of the invoice. A late payment charge of £25 will be incurred unless an instalment plan is agreed with the bookkeeper within two weeks of the invoice date, increasing by an additional £25 for each additional week that payment is late. If an invoice is not paid in full by the end of the term, parents will be unable to book their child into any unfunded hours for the following term. If you are unable to settle your invoice by the required date please speak, in confidence, to the bookkeeper to see if alternative payment arrangements can be made. If fees are not settled, we are left with no alternative but to withdraw your child’s place and if necessary take legal action to recover the amount owed. Children in receipt of Free Early Education (see further below) will be unable to access any additional fee paying hours until outstanding fees are settled.
Payment Methods: Invoices can be settled by bank transfer, cash or cheque, or by using childcare voucher schemes or tax-free childcare.
